Remittance Analyst
Role summary:
Make an impact by helping ensure payment and claim information is resolved accurately and on time. The Remittance Analyst supports revenue cycle performance by reviewing remittance-related work, researching issues, and partnering with internal teams to help resolve open accounts receivable.
Team summary:
The remittance team plays an important role in supporting strong financial outcomes for healthcare organizations. The team reviews payment and claims-related work, helps resolve open accounts receivable, and identifies opportunities to improve accuracy and efficiency across workflows. Team members work closely with cross-functional partners to remove barriers, address issues, and support continuous improvement. This team combines operational focus, collaboration, and problem-solving to help deliver consistent results.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Analyze assigned remittance and accounts receivable work queues to support timely and accurate resolution of open items.
- Review claim, payment, and account information to identify issues, determine next steps, and support accurate completion of remittance-related tasks.
- Prioritize time-sensitive work based on business impact, aging, and criticality to meet operational expectations.
- Communicate clearly with internal partners to resolve issues, clarify requirements, and support shared goals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address payment variances, process gaps, and account resolution barriers.
- Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to research issues and recommend practical next steps.
- Maintain accurate documentation, updates, and status tracking for assigned work and resolved items.
- Monitor trends in queue activity and surface opportunities to improve workflows, accuracy, and outcomes.
- Use available AI tools to help organize work, summarize issue patterns, draft clear communications, or identify trends in remittance activity, while reviewing outputs carefully and using personal judgment before taking action.
Additional Job Responsibilities:
- Support process improvement efforts related to remittance workflows and account resolution practices.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and cross-functional discussions related to operational updates.
- Assist with documentation updates for standard work, job aids, and process guidance.
- Share observations and recurring issues with team members and leaders to help improve performance.
- Contribute to ad hoc reporting or research requests related to remittance activity and open accounts receivable.
- Test updated processes or tools and provide feedback on usability and effectiveness.
Expected Education & Experience:
- Experience in revenue cycle, healthcare operations, claims, remittance, payment posting, accounts receivable, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to manage numerous time-sensitive tasks and complete work accurately.
- Experience influencing others to achieve shared outcomes in a professional work environment.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated planning, organization, and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize work based on criticality.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to research issues and determine next steps.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Experience working with cross-functional groups to achieve common goals.
- Flexibility and adaptability in responding to changing priorities and operational challenges.
Expected Compensation
$30,000 - $52,000The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates. Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
